Import Dialog

In the import dialog you can define your individual settings for imported geometry and decide, which objects should be created simultaneously. Import dialog is divided into following tabs: Settings, Element Mapping, Import Alignment, Import Tendons

Settings tab

The Settings Tab provides the main settings for imported geometry.


Select SOFiSTiK Database (*.cdb)

  • Select SOFiSTiK Database (*.cdb) file of a model, which will be imported into Revit Project.

Import Settings

  • Activate the checkbox to decide whether or not to import Structural Elements and choose an object type. You can choose between:
    • Direct Shapes - an elemet type, that can strore arbitrary geometry obtained from *cdb file. These elements cannot be edited in project document. You can edit Direct Shape in Family Editor using Edit DirectShape command.
    • Freeform Family Instance - an element type, that can bo modified both in Project by using joins and cuts functionalities or in Revit Family Editor. Adjusted geometry can be loaded back to project file and the previous one overwritten.
    • Parametric Adaptive Component - geometry is created using loft functionality on adaptive profiles along an axis. Each profile is created on basis of extracted cross section information and parameterized. An insertion point of profile on the axis is defined as the origin of coordinate system of cross section.
  • Parametric Cross Section mode - if ‘Parametric Adaptive Componen’ is selected, choose the type of definition and parametrization of imported cross sections. You can choose between:
    • Constrained Referance Points - cross section is defined in respect to the referance points. Parameters are set between referance planes of the points.
    • Constrained Model Curves - cross section is created and parametrized in respect to the model curves.
    • Offset to ReferancePoint Planes - cross section is defined using points and parametrized using ‘Offset’ parameter in referance to the insertion point. Each corner consists of two points, each for one offset direction.
  • Select an orientation of cross section
    • Orthogonal to Axis - created geometry will be defined with the cross sections in orthogonal direction to the structural element axis.
    • Vertical - created geometry will be defined with the cross sections in vertical direction (Z-axis) of the project.
  • Create contour lines - creates a model line around every imported cross section. This functionality provides additional referances and helps you with dimensioning of the structure.

  • Combine Structural Elements in axis - combines structural elements, that are defined on one axis into one element in Revit. This operation is not always possible, it can be disturbed by the differance of cross section definition.

Element Mapping tab

The Element Mapping tab provides you extracted material and element type infomation. Automatic mapping proposes the possible assignment of Revit material and category. Assignment may be changed according to your preferances.



If no appropriate material is found in Revit file, new material with corresponding data will be created and shown in mapping tab.

Import Alignment tab

Activate the checkbox to decide whether or not to import Alignment elements.



  • Create Grid lines
  • Sections at Placement plane
  • Placement Symbol, available categories: Site, Generic Model, Roads, Topography

Alignment Curves

  • Create Multi-Segment Grid on Axis - if activated, a grid representation of an axis will be created

  • Axis Goemetric Curve, available categories: Site, Lines, Generic Model, Roads, Topography

Import Tendons tab

Activate the checkbox to decide whether or not to import Tendon elements.


Prestress System Mapping

  • Mapping teble shows an extracted Prestress System data and assigns to the chosen Rebar Type. Additional information regarding prestressing represantation in Revit can be found here.


If no appropriate Rebar Type is found in Revit file, new Rebar Type with corresponding data will be created and shown in Prestress System Mapping section.
