Content and Customizing

SOFiSTiK Bridge Modeler creates elements using Profile Generic Model Families (for Superstructure and Parapets) and 3D Generic Model Families (for Substructure and Railing).

You can find some examples of these families in installation directory.

C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\ApplicationPlugins\sofistik_bridge_modeler_2019.bundle\Contents\data

The basis of all our families we use for superstructure and substructure componenets are the standard REVIT “Metric Generic Model Adaptive.rft” family type. The family will be created based on reference points, which all refer to the first adaptive point in the center of the family.

Note

Any changes to the the content requires careful planning and management and should only be done by the Revit administrator or CAD/BIM managers of the organization. The software may not work, if the Bridge Profiles, Substructure, Parapets or Railing families are not designed properly.

The following Families Content is supplied:

Girder Reference

Customize

You can customize your content by changing the parameters (in Revit Family Editor or by using the ‘create’ and ‘edit’ commands) or by creating new Profiles and Substructure Elements. Following Workflow is recommended:

Note

In case you need to modify one of the family or create a new one, please follow recommended workflow for corresponding Family customisation.

General Workflow for Customisation

  • Check the Supplied Content in installation directory

C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\ApplicationPlugins\sofistik_bridge_modeler_2019.bundle\Contents\data

  • Select the Family file, that is the closest to your needs.

  • Save it locally and rename it.

  • Apply changes to the new Family, save it and load into the project when ready.

Note

Saving your new family in installation directory will cause the loss of data after the software update. All files will be overwritten.

Note

It is strongly recommended to test your family in terms of parametrization before using it with any of the create commands. Any warning, that you obtain in the family caused by parametrization, will be shown multiple times, while creating/editing the components or substructures in your project.

Project Template

It is recommended to use ‘_SBM_BiMTOOLS Template 2020_DE_1.0’ project template.

The project template can be accessed in the content directory:
