TOOLTIP Align the local coordinate system of elements.
Summary

Changes the orientation of an existing SOFiSTiK element in various ways, e.g. by orientating it towards or away from a reference point. Linear elements can also be rotated about their longitudinal axis. Dependent on the system and element type, different input options are available for use.

Please notice, the following options may affect local support conditions, loads applied to the element local axis and the cross-section.

GR Orient towards gravity direction

For elements whose load Z-axis does not lie in the self-weight direction, the direction is changed so that it does. This modification is also possible with the ‘Align Elements’ command but, with the ‘align in self-weight direction’ option, more elements can be taken in the selection set. Only the elements whose Z-axis is not aligned in the self-weight direction are then modified.

Di Invert Direction

Inverts the direction so that start and end points are reversed. This option can be useful e.g. if columns are misaligned.

RX Rotate around x-axis, RY rotate around y-axis and RZ rotate around z-axis

Rotates the element about its local axis.

XZ set x-direction, ZZ set z-direction and YZ set y-direction

With this option, the direction of elements can be defined with the selection of two points. These must not be defined in the element axis.

XP x-direction towards point, YP y-direction towards point and ZP z-direction towards point

With this option, the direction of selected elements can be re-aligned by selection of a point.

XI invert x-direction, YI Invert y-direction and ZI invert z-direction

Mirrors the direction of an element. The element is thus turned upside down.

XWP x-direction away from point, YWP y-direction away from point and ZWP z-direction away from point

With this option, the direction of the axis is defined with a point away from the origin.

XAL align x-direction to point, line or area (with rotation about z)

This option is only for structural area elements. The local x-axis can be re-aligned by selection of another existing structural element. An angle for an additional rotation round the local z-axis can be given.

YAL align y-direction to point, line or area

This option is only for structural area elements. The local y-axis can be re-aligned by selection of another existing structural element.

XAI align x-direction to isolines of referenced surface

This option is only for structural area elements. The local x-axis of structural areas out of AutoCAD surfaces can be re-directed to the original direction.
