Earthquake Analysis - Shear Walls

Introduction

The following tutorial focuses on the SSD workflow for the analysis of shear walls within the scope of earthquake analysis.

The analysed structure is modelled in Revit 2020 and the finite element model is generated by using SOFiSTiK Analysis + Design for Revit 2020.

Shear walls are modelled with quad elements. Furthermore, design elements are assigned to the shear walls within the Revit model. They provide for a fully automatic interpolation and integration of quad internal forces for the corresponding shear walls` cross sections; thus, enabling a straight-forward assessment and further design on the basis of cross-sectional forces.

For more information about the definition of design elements in Revit 2020, please see the following tutorial: Generation of Design Elements for Shear Walls.

For additional infomation on the earthquake analysis with the Response Spectrum Analysis (RSA), please check the following tutorial: Earthquake Analysis with RSA.

Project Description

Please see the following project information before setting up the project files. The modell is based on the example given in “Eurocode 8: Seismic Design of Buildings Worked examples” by Bisch et al, 2011.
