Sections

Displays the mapping table between Revit Family Types and SOFiSTiK cross sections for verification and modification.

  1. Click SOFiSTiK Analysis Tab Mapping Sections.

  2. Verify the SOFiSTiK sections that have been assigned to Revit Elements.

  3. Modify or create SOFiSTiK sections if required.

  4. Use the invalidation arrow to reset a section to its default mapping

For the generation of Finite Element models from a Revit project, each Type of analytical frame and column elements in Revit needs to be associated with a SOFiSTiK cross section. This association is carried out through the Cross Section Mapping table.

When opening the section mapping table the first time or when generating a finite element model without prior adjustment of the section mapping, SOFiSTiK Analysis + Design automatically generates and assigns suitable SOFiSTiK cross sections based on geometry and material properties. Especially, concrete cross sections are automatically generated with a basic reinforcement information.

Tip

If Design Elements have their property Cross Section active, a SOFiSTiK cross section is generated and appears in the Cross Section Mapping table.

For analytical beam members connected with a slab (downstand beam) the section mapping assigns a T-beam cross section if the following requirements are met:

  • The analytical line of the beam is connected geometrically with the analytical surface of the slab.

  • An effective width is assigned to the beam member in the SOFiSTiK structural properties panel.

  • The beam member is placed centrically in the SOFiSTiK structural properties panel.

For analytical beams members with a varying cross section, a start and end sections can be mapped if the corresponding sections in Revit have the same number of edges. An example of such beam member family can be found in the Family Content Folder of SOFiSTiK Analysis + Design.

Note

Only elements visible in the active Revit view are displayed in the mapping table.

Invalidate all mappings breaks the association for all items in the table. Next time the dialog is opened, the software will generate anew a default mapping. Use SOFiSTiK Project Settings to delete or import SOFiSTiK Cross Sections.
