Terrain

From Toposurface

You can create a Digital Terrain Model from selected toposurface(s) as FreeformFamily Instance.

  1. Click SOFiSTiK Bridge tab > Create panel > icon_Terrain (Terrain) drop-down > icon_Terrain_From_Toposurface (From Toposurface)

  2. Select toposurface.

SOFiSTiK: Terrain from Toposurface dialog displays.

    ../../_images/mpic_terrain_from_toposurface.png
  3. Assign material, position and base level and confirm with OK.

Positioning

Select the coordinates to place the imported terrain accordingly.

  • by alignment location - places beginning of the terrain always at the internal origin

  • by Project base point - places terrain according to the project coordinates

  • by Shared site - places terrain according to the shared coordinates

  • by Internal origin - places terrain according to the internal Revit coordinates

Base Elevation

Define the elevation for the base of the created Terrain Model.

General Tolerance

Maximum tolerance between the points of triangulated mesh. Points with a smaller distance will be merged.

Angular Tolerance

Maximum tolerance of angles in the triangles of the mesh. Triangles with smaller angles will be merged.

Update existing elements

Update existing elements checkbox enables you to updated previously created or imported terrain models. If activated, after confirming with OK, you need to select a terrain model.

Import

You can create a Digital Terrain Model from an external file. Currentyl LandXML (.xml), ACIS(.sat), STL(.stl) and Rhino(.3dm) format is supported. Surface of Terrain Model will be created accodring to triangulated mesh (faces).

  1. Click SOFiSTiK Bridge tab > Create panel > icon_Terrain (Terrain) drop-down > icon_Terrain_Import (Import)

SOFiSTiK: Select Source File dialog displays.

  2. Select the source file and confirm with OK.

SOFiSTiK: Terrain from Toposurface dialog displays.

    ../../_images/mpic_terrain_import.png
  3. Assign material, position and base level and confirm with OK.

Include invisible faces

If activated, faces that are part of triangulation, but are defined as invisible will be taken into account by creation of Terrain Model. More information you can find here: http://www.landxml.org/schema/LandXML-1.2/documentation/LandXML-1.2Doc.html

Import as Toposurface

You can import a Digital Terrain Model from selected LandXML file and create a toposurface in your project.

  1. Click SOFiSTiK Bridge tab > Create panel > icon_Terrain (Terrain) drop-down > icon_Terrain_Import (Import)

SOFiSTiK: Select Source File dialog displays.

    ../../_images/mpic_axis_import_dialog.png
  2. Select the source file and confirm with OK.

SOFiSTiK: Terrain from Toposurface dialog displays.

  3. Assign material and position and confirm with OK.

Intersection

You can create a Digital Terrain Model from an intersection of existing terrain and another geometry.

  1. Click SOFiSTiK Bridge tab > Create panel > icon_Terrain (Terrain) drop-down > icon_Terrain_Intersection (Intersection)

  2. Select existing Terrain Model.

  3. Select intersecting geometry.

  4. New Terrain element is created.

Note

There are some limitation regarding the Joining or Cutting elements by Revit. Specially regarding two nearby faces. Please note, that Intersection tool is limited by this issues.

Subtraction

You can create a Digital Terrain Model by subtracting an existing Terrain with another geometry.

  1. Click SOFiSTiK Bridge tab > Create panel > icon_Terrain (Terrain) drop-down > icon_Terrain_Subtraction (Subtraction)

  2. Select existing Terrain Model.

  3. Select intersecting geometry.

  4. New Terrain element is created.

Unio

You can create a Digital Terrain Model by combining two or more an existing Terrain geometries.

  1. Click SOFiSTiK Bridge tab > Create panel > icon_Terrain (Terrain) drop-down > icon_Terrain_Union (Union)

  2. Select one or more existing Terrain Models and confirm with Finish.

  3. New Terrain element is created.
