Running Mode / Cross Section Type#

Standard Cross Section

  • A graphical editing in the Cross Section Editor is not possible. The cross sections are displayed in the read only mode.

  • Standard cross sections with geometrical information can be converted to a general solid or thin-walled cross section using the Explode command.

Solid Cross Section

Solid reinforced concrete:

  • Only concrete and reinforcing steel materials are allowed.

Solid composite section or steel section:

  • Free choice of material.

  • All commands for solid sections are available.

  • The analytical parameters (control options) are set for composite sections.

Solid others (general):

  • Free choice of material.

  • All commands for solid sections are available.

  • There are general defaults which have to be adjusted in contrast to the specialised running modes.

Thin-walled Cross Section

Thin-walled reinforced concrete:

  • Only concrete and reinforcing steel materials are allowed.

  • Steel profiles are not allowed.

Thin-walled steel:

  • Only metallic materials are allowed.

  • A definition of a reinforcement is not possible.

Thin-walled composite section:

  • Free choice of material.

  • All thin-walled commands are available.

  • The analytical parameters (control options) are set for composite sections.

Thin-walled others (general):

  • Free material selection.

  • All thin-walled commands are available.

  • There are general defaults which have to be adjusted in contrast to the specialised running modes.

The choice of running mode for a cross section cannot be changed subsequently. If necessary, it is possible to copy the geometry from the original cross section with the command copy with base point, in order to insert it in a new one with a different running mode. The new cross section can be processed then as required. A direct conversion from one mode to another is not possible.
