Structural Elements

Command to create structural constraint elements between two structual lines or between edges of structural areas. It is possible to choose several source elements but only one target element.

If a structual area edge is selected as the source or target, a congruent structural line may be created on this edge.

Constraints are used to describe infinitely stiff elements and special boundary conditions that are numerically stable.

A constraint is an element with infinite stiffness. It is possible to define different types of constraint in constraint groups in order to achieve a clearly laid out project.

Note

The group number 0 is interpreted as automatic. If you want to change from a defined group number back to the value automatic, the group number 0 must be entered.

The type of constraint specifies the direction of the constraint with its associated permitted rotations or displacements.

Local directions are given by the local direction of the source line.

A detailed description of these properties can be found in the chapter ‘SLNS – Supports and kinematic couplings on a SLN’ of the manual SOFiMSHC.
