Subsystem View#

Subsystems are used for generation of a corresponding SOFiSTiK Finite Element model. A Subsystem is based on a specific 3D Revit View, which is handled by these commands.

Important

For subsystem views, the following rules apply:

  1. What you see is what you get

    The visible Revit analytical model category elements will be generated as Finite Elements. See Supported Elements and Mapping for more info.

  2. Optional transformation

    Selected Revit analytical elements can be transformed into supports (if the corresponding option is activated). See Boundary Conditions for more info.

Create Subsystems#

To create subsystems and their subsystem views, the following options are available:

  • Subsystem View

    A subsystem view is created by manual selection of elements.

  • Subsystem Views by Levels (available through the drop-down menu of the command)

    A subsystem view is automatically created via the level information of the Revit project.

Note

For both options the connected supporting elements beneath the selection are added to the view and marked for transformation into Boundary Conditions.

The subsystem specification window appears where the name of the subsystem (and its view) and settings for load transfer can be defined.

By validating with OK, the newly created view is added to Revit’s Project Browser and opened.

Remove Subsystems#

To remove a subsystem, the following options are available:

  • Manually

    Delete the subsystem view from Revit’s Project Browser.

  • Remove Subsystem Information (available through the drop-down menu of the command)

    1. Select the subsystem from the drop-down menu or open the respective subsystem view from Revit’s Project Browser.

    2. Select Remove Subsystem Information.

    The subsystem information is removed, but the corresponding view remains.

Boundary Conditions#

For subsystems, SOFiSTiK Analysis + Design provides the possibility to transform supporting elements into Boundary Conditions. This option and its commands can be found under SOFiSTiK Structural Properties ‣ System View ‣ Boundary Conditions.

Allows to select or deselect supporting elements.

To control the subsystem support, select the supporting elements (either manually or using SOFiSTiK Structural Properties ‣ System View ‣ Boundary Conditions ‣ Supporting Elements ‣ Highlight). The SOFiSTiK Structural Properties now show the properties of the selected elements, e.g., walls. Under Subsystem support, you can adjust the stiffness of the individual directions. Options are:
